About Signals & Seeds

Our world is noisy. Screeches of chaos and cracks of collapse. The noise is deafening.

My mission here is to create a signal. Words that lead you to a conversation that shows you're not alone. You're not crazy. You're not in a simulation.

And then we'll explore planting Seeds together. Seeds are tiny action steps that lead us towards change, however we define it.

We're living through collapse. A slow roll towards a tomorrow that none of us can predict and that increasingly looks ominous. The slow deterioration of what we know as normal, predictable and sound.

But the harsh reality is that collapse is inevitable for a system built on trauma and destruction. A system built to view the human as a commodity, without value or regard. Those of us who work at the intersections of emergent systems know why we're here and are trained to see the hidden paths that lead towards alternatives. We straddle multiple worlds, multiple chasms and we hold the tension of transition as an energy to move us through the cracks towards the light.

This is the work.

We're planting Seeds. Our wisdom lives in the soil and our sweat and tears have nourished these seeds for years. Now we're spreading the wealth of these sprouts with our communities and showing an alternative pathway through. Seeds are how we take action and create the change we all crave.

I'm from a generation where women hit our firsts. I grew up watching women take the anchor chairs on the evening news. I came of age watching women fight to serve alongside men in the armed forces. I was the only woman on the school soccer teams and I fought for every inch of respect from ruthless teen boys. I grew up in an analog world, the last generation to spend their childhoods unplugged, in the woods and roaming neighborhoods untethered at sundown.

We are the Wise Women stepping into our power and fighting to lead through the chaos towards the next vision of what's possible. We do this by grabbing the mic and waiting for no man's permission to speak into it. We build our own platforms and our own megaphones. We do this by building communities to share wisdom and connecting them across oceans to spread information and understanding. We do this by building technology with humanity at it's core, refusing to extract for unending profits.

My story is long. Twisty. Sparkling. And gorgeous.

I told my dad I wanted to be a photographer when I was ten. He bought me a real camera for my birthday, assuming it was the fad of an eager to be grown 10 year old and he'd get the camera within a few months. I still have it. I never let go of the portal that hung around my neck and was my portal to the world.

Me at age ten. My cousin said "stand like a photographer".

The camera showed me the depths of being human, in a way I would never have understood otherwise. I have sat with, and documented, the most intense moments of people's lives. The quiet agony of war, poverty, patriarchy and systemic racism. And I sat with that agony again and again over the years– both theirs and my own.

My professional trajectory is an anomaly. I view the world in a way that is rare. Traveling in and out of people's lives witnessing the full spectrum of what humans are possible of inflicting upon one another, allows me to view the world differently. My love of subcultures has driven me to both participate in and document a few– the Grateful Dead in the early 90s, a hacker space hidden at the beach, a Gem and Mineral Club in Quartzsite Arizona filled with old rock hound roughnecks, bartending on the Outer Banks, Ethereum infrastructure and impact ecosystems. The technical version is below, the threads are not linear, but they are compelling.

Maoist rebels in Nepal, 2006.

Alongside my winding professional path lies a parallel academic path that wove through a multitude of disciplines; Outdoor Recreation, Visual Communications & Mass Media, Peace, War and Defense and finally landing on Bachelors of Arts in Yoga Studies with a minor in Contemplative Religions. For now. If we're privileged enough in this lifetime to have the resources to learn, we are truly blessed. And I am.

And that's what we need now. Curious minds willing to keep learning. Strong hearts to keep pushing against the cracks to let the light in. Voices strong enough to cry out and scream "not on my watch". And spines that will not waiver in the face of pure evil.

It is our time now. Our time to step into our empowered selves and stand against all that is wrong in our world. And now is our time to start building what is possible once we navigate through this slow slide into collapse. Each story of such a time throughout history eventually surrenders to peace and regeneration. We may not make it to that quiet space, but we can help the generation land their and protect it.
